Violet Westland and Renee Speirs of Rothesay Bowling Club were crowned Argyll and Bute’s ladies’ pairs champions at Oban on Saturday.

Violet and Renee’s achievement was the high point of a busy day for the island’s bowlers in the Argyll and Bute championships, with the ladies’ finals taking place in Oban and the gents doing battle in Tarbert and Lochgilphead.

Rothesay’s ladies’ singles, triples and rinks just failed to reach their finals, while the Ardbeg gents’ triples and rinks and the Rothesay pairs and senior rinks all had to be content with runner-up places in their finals in Tarbert.
