Hugh Charker and Billy Wilson kept up Rothesay Bowling Club’s winning start to the annual series of Bute Bowling Association competitions with victory in the Hicks Pairs final at Craigmore BC on Thursday.

Looking to emulate the achievements of the Rothesay rink which had won the McMillan Cup on the same green seven days previously, Hugh and Billy didn’t get off to the best of starts, with their opponents, Ronnie Macrae and Jimmy Gilmour of Ardbeg, leading 5-1 after three ends.

But the Rothesay pair soon recovered and eventually moved ahead towards the end of a closely-contested match, scoring six shots in the course of two ends to move 17-12 in front before eventually triumphing 18-13.

After the match the trophy was presented by Craigmore president Hugh Yeamans.
