The Ardbeg triple of Brian MacKillop, Ronnie McCrae and Fred Baker finished as runners-up in the annual open triples competition at Ardgowan Bowling Club in Greenock this week.

Brian, Ronnie and Fred qualified for the knockout stages along with two teams from Ardgowan and two from Kilmacolm, plus one each from Gourock Park, Victoria and J.G. Fleming.

Three of the quarter-finals were won by a single shot, with Ardbeg defeating one of the host club’s triples, while in the last four Victoria defeated Gourock Park and Ardbeg beat Kilmacolm.

Sadly for the Ardbeg trio, on the first occasion the club has been represented at the Ardgowan tournament they couldn’t quite make it to the top step of the podium, with the Victoria triple of Robert Turner, James Sherriff and Robert Davidson, past winners of the competition, adding another victory to their haul.
