Twenty-four lady bowlers from Cowal, Bute, Drymen, Lochgoilhead and the host club took part in Ladies Day at Colintraive, playing for the Anne MacRobert Trophy.

This tournament was sponsored once again by The Scottish Salmon Company and the club would like to thank them for their continued support.

President Curly welcomed all the ladies to the Club for the last “Open” of the Season and then passed to his Vice President June MacIver, to advise of the format for the day.

Each triple (two from Colintraive; two from Innellan; and one each from Upper Cowal, Lochgoilhea, Drymen and Rothesay BCs) played three games of six ends with the top two scoring triples playing a final to determine the winners for 2015.

Following the qualifying games it transpired that the top two triples were from the host club (no, no it wasn’t a fix, honestly!)

The finalists were Nan Cook, Jean Currie andJessie McNaughton (skip) against Eileen Brand, Greta Clark and Jan Mackenzie (skip).

It was a very close game to watch and could have gone either way, with only one shot separating them going into the last end. Jessie, Jean and Nan came out on top and lifted the trophy with Eileen, Greta and Jan being the very worthy runners-up. Both triples played excellent bowls throughout the day.

The “booby” prizes were awarded to Upper Cowal’s triple of Liz Simpson, Sheila Teasdale and Evelyn Puller. They actually had the biggest smiles of all on the day. It’s definitely something to do with the atmosphere at Colintraive.

Jack Ferguson, Club Member, presented the prizes to all the winners. Good luck to Jack and Beryl on their move to Millport.

Thanks go to the ladies of Colintraive for a splendid lunch, the gents for looking after us all day, and to Fergie and co. for dinner. Special thanks to David Gray for providing individual bottles of “wine” for each lady. Thanks to Jessie for going above and beyond her normal duties.
