Jim Malcolm senior won the first Alex Leitch Memorial charity angling competition, held at Loch Ascog on Saturday and Sunday.

The competition was organised in memory of Alex Leitch, a keen angler from Bute who died in February at the age of 33 after a short illness.

The weekend-long event attracted 11 fishermen and also saw donations received from many of Alex’s friends. The money raised will go to the intensive care unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Alex’s sister Suzanne said: “Alex was a regular visitor to Loch Ascog. He was fishing daft, and we’re hoping to make the competition an annual event.”
