Youth football: Bute YFC’s cup hopes go West
BUTE YFC put in a creditable performance despite an 8-0 defeat at the hands of A League Mojams White in the West of Scotland Cup on Saturday.
Playing on a perfect 3G surface the boys knocked the ball around well in the opening stages, and gave as good as they got for the first ten minutes or so before a mistake at right back let in Mojams’ winger to start the ball rolling for an in-form home side.
A similar mistake allowed the same player to double the lead, and Mojams effectively killed the game with a third just before the break.
A reshuffled Bute side adopted a positive approach after the break, pushing forward in search of the goal which just might give them a way back into the game - but that positive approach proved to be their undoing, and in a horrible ten-minute spell Mojams scored another five goals, and might have added more but for some superb work from Ryan Leitch in goal.
Coach Roddie Leitch said: “Sometimes a team’s status precedes them, and with the boys all looking at Mojams’ position in the A League before they set off, more than a few were down before we even played.”
