Trio tie for ladies' open title
THREE names will be added to Rothesay Golf Club's Ladies Open Salver for 2006 after a trio of mainland visitors tied for top place in the prestigious competition.
Clear skies and sunshine greeted the 27th playing of the competition, and with a field of 85 competitors it proved to be a very busy day for the club, both on the course and in the clubhouse.
Patricia Davidson from Erskine, a novice to Rothesay Golf Club, certainly enjoyed playing the course, recording a very respectable gross 80.
This score could not be bettered, although later in the day Alex Glennie, last year's winner, and her Kilmarnock Barassie clubmate Joanne Sharp, both equalled it, ensuring three names would be added to the silverware.
The large contingents from Skelmorlie and Kilmarnock Barassie again had a good number of ladies among the prize winners, but it was a Cowal member, Susan Young, who, again playing the course for the first time, carded a net score of 69 to lift the Silver Salver.
In the bronze division Rothesay's ladies treasurer, Betty Wilson, led the field from early in the morning with an excellent net 68, a score which could not be bettered by any of the other 49 ladies vying to lift the Bronze Quaich.
In the absence of club captain Lennie Moffat, lady captain Louise Pearson welcomed all the 'overseas' visitors to the club and thanked all the helpers and staff who had contributed towards the highly successful day.
