Bute Shinty Club held an open day in Rothesay on Saturday as the search for new players ahead of the 2013 season goes on.

The session was moved from the club’s home ground at the Meadows to the all-weather surface at Rothesay Joint Campus due to heavy rain, but that didn’t seem to stop the participants enjoying the experience.

As well as a number of potential new adult players, the event also attracted several younger participants keen to start out on the road which might lead to their pulling on the red Bute jersey in ten years’ time.

Saturday’s open day was organised in the wake of a disappointing 2012 campaign for the island, which ended with a number of senior Bute players announcing their intention to retire due to age or injury - creating some doubt over whether the club will be able to field two teams in 2013.
