Jonathan ‘Shockie’ MacLennan scored twice as Skye booked their place the last eight of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup courtesy of a comfortable 3-0 win over Bute in Rothesay on Saturday.

The visitors, who were sharper, faster and fitter than their hosts throughout the 90 minutes, served notice of their intent early on, MacLennan slamming home the opening goal after Bute were unable to properly clear Gibbs MacDonald’s corner.

And Skye, riding high at the top of North Division One, added a second midway through the first half when Will Cowie set up Kenny Campbell for a low shot which gave Bute keeper Kevin Queen no chance.

Skye keeper Jamie Gannon had to look smart to bundle John MacCallum’s shot away to safety as Bute made a better start to the second half, but any lingering hopes the home side may have had of finding a way back into the tie were dashed on 73 minutes when Cowie and Campbell set up MacLennan for his second and the visitors’ third.

Both sides missed penalties in the closing stages: Bute’s Robert Walker, making his first appearance of the season, saw his effort saved by Gannon before Cowie was denied by Queen in similar fashion at the other end in injury time.

An increasingly frustrated Bute team was also reduced to 11 men in added time at the end after Bryan Liddell received his second booking of the game from referee David Mitchell.
