DUNCAN SPEIRS added the Sir Harry Hope Cup to his list of achievements this season when he won the handsome trophy by the narrowest of margins last Saturday despite a spirited performance by Stevie Neilson in the final stage of this ‘best-two-rounds-from-three’ competition.

On a day when a brisk north-easterly wind blew away the chances of several challengers, Neilson matched the 129 aggregate of the front-runner when he added a fighting net 66 to his earlier 63 -- but the silverware went to Speirs (66, 63) thanks to his superior second round.

WLeading scorers in the final placings were as follows: D. Speirs 129 (66, 63), S. Neilson 129 (63, 66), J. Kernaghan 130 (63, 67), R. More 133 (66, 67), D. Bryden 134 (63, 71), I. Smith 134 (67, 67), R. Smith 135 (65, 70), L. Thomas 135 (67, 68), A.C. Middleton 137 (68, 69), S. Wilson 137 (67, 70).
