Golf: smiles all round on special day at Port Bannatyne
THE first special event in Port Bannatyne Golf Club’s centenary year saw the opening of a brand new pavilion to provide shelter for players on the first and 13th tees of the course.
The pavilion has been sponsored by the Fergus family in memory of their father Jim, and daughter Fiona cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the new building before the playing of the JMF Tankard, sponsored by Fiona’s brothers Alistair and David, on Sunday.
The competition itself was won by Hector Whitelaw, who may have only managed to hit two greens in ‘regulation’, but who chipped and putted like a demon en route to a winning net score of 62 (72-10).
John Black was the runner-up, beating Donald Standaloft on the better inward half after both players returned net scores of 63, though Donald found consolation in the best scratch score of the day with his round of 67.
Jimmy Dunn took third spot with a net 64 (74-10).
