Port Bannatyne Golf Club's senior open prize winners.

Port Bannatyne’s centenary captain Iain L. MacLeod showed that age is no barrier to golfing success when he won the club’s Seniors Open, sponsored by Cowal Building and Plumbing Supplies, with a net score of 62.

Iain, well into his seventies, recorded a gross score of 77 - not bad at all for a very youthful veteran!

The day proved to be one for the older competitors in the field, with the over-60 players dominating the overall prize list.

Pat McDonald from Rothesay took runner-up spot courtesy of a net 63, and the Port’s own John Preston finished third, three strokes further back - while another ‘golden oldie’, Neil Ritchie of Rothesay, took the scratch prize with a score of 70.

* Meanwhile, Bute Golf Club emerged victorious in their annual social match against Port Bannatyne at Kingarth on Saturday - the first time in six years the Bute name has appeared on the trophy contested between the two clubs each year.

The host club won by a 5-1 margin - results as follows, with Bute names first.

A. Docherty and D. Moffat beat J. Paterson and A. Stevenson 5 and 3; J. Kernaghan and R. Smith beat C. MacPhail and M. Ivory 5 and 4; P. Martin and A. McFarlane lost to A. Cormack and M. Dunn 5 and 3; A.C. Middleton and S. Long beat I.L. MacLeod and A. Dunn 3 and 2; R. Melville and R. McKirdy beat P. Bartlett and J. Thom 4 and 2; I. McDougall and F. Robinson finished 2 up on R. Jardine and A. Robertson.
