Golf: Nicol blitzes field in Kingarth Open triumph

COLIN NICOL played the round of his life on Sunday as he spread-eagled the field on his way to a remarkable victory in Bute Golf Club’s Kingarth Open.

In an outstanding performance, the Rothesay player completed his round in gross 63 – just one shot outside the course record, held by Rothesay club champion Graham Bolton.

And Nicol’s net 51 – almost certainly the lowest score ever recorded for an open tournament on the island – earned him a comfortable victory as he finished a massive seven shots clear of his nearest challenger, the host club’s Andy Docherty.

There’ll be a full Kingarth Open report in this week’s issue of The Buteman, on sale from Thursday, June 28.
