Golf: Liam leads field after M&M second round
LIAM SHANKS of Port Bannatyne Golf Club leads the way after the second round of the M&M Trophy, played at Rothesay on Wednesday.
Having been two shots off the pace after the opening round at the Port course on Sunday, Liam will take a healthy five-shot margin into the final stage of the tournament, in which one round is played at each of Bute’s three courses, after posting a net 62 over the Canada Hill course.
Liam’s net score, achieved off a handicap of ten, saw him finish two clear of the field on Wednesday, with Bute Golf Club’s Andy Docherty (79-15) the best of four players on net 64; the others were Jim McKirdy (72-8), Graham Dunn (68-4) and Malcolm Brown (73-9).
Liam now has an overall total of 126, five ahead of Rothesay’s Ryan McKirdy, who carded a net 68 over his home course. Craig McKellar is third on 133 after a net 66 on Wednesday, with Jim McKirdy on 134, Jim McAlister on 135 and Graham Dunn on 136.
The final round of this year’s competition will be played at Bute Golf Club’s Kingarth course this Sunday, May 13, with play beginning at 8am.
