Golf: Jim is new Bute club champion
JIM McKIRDY won his first Bute Golf Club championship title at Kingarth on Sunday with a two-hole victory over his namesake Robert.
Jim, who beat Richie More 3 and 2 in the quarter-finals before edging out Duncan Speirs 2 and 1 in the last four, held his nerve to clinch the title with a birdie three at the last after a close final played in strong sunshine and a stiff breeze.
Meanwhile, there will be another new name on the Cuthbertson Cup after Stuart Wilson triumphed in the final of the ‘wee championship’, played off full handicap differences, courtesy of a 5 and 4 win over Ian McDougall on Sunday.
