Golf: flying start puts Richie on road to success

A FLYING start, including two birdies in the first six holes, put Rothesay van driver Richie More on the road to victory on Saturday in the sixth round of Bute Golf Club’s Winter League at Kingarth.

The 11-handicapper went on to achieve his best score of 42 points in the stableford tournament, sponsored by Stephen Thomas Financial Services.

A three at the opening hole, followed by the only two of the day at the sixth, helped take More to the turn in 35, and although his foot came off the accelerator on the back nine, he did well to finish on gross 73.

League leader Ian McDougall continued to maintain his recent good form with another excellent round to finish hard on the heels of More with 41 points.
