Golf: Claire retains Rothesay open title
Rothesay Golf Club's ladies' open prize winners with Elizabeth Speirs, captain of the club's ladies' section. Overall winner Claire Hargan is on the far left of the group.
CLAIRE HARGAN of Cardross Golf Club retained her Rothesay Ladies’ Open title on Saturday – posting a score which was two shots better than her winning total in 2011.
Claire’s scratch score of 72 gave her an eight shot margin of victory over Rothesay’s own Elizabeth McMillan and Anne Laing of Vale of Leven.
Fifty-two players braved the rain for the 32nd Rothesay Ladies’ Open, though most of the players managed to fit in a few dry holes between the showers.
In addition to Elizabeth’s share of overall second place, Rothesay’s Phyllis McKirdy won the silver division first prize with a net 65, while Fiona Torrance took top honours in the bronze division with a net score of 70.
Ladies’ captain Elizabeth Speirs, after thanking all those involved in running the event, said: “We do try to organise the weather, but some things are outwith even our control!”
