Glasgow City and Scotland striker Jane Ross, a former pupil of Rothesay Academy, has been named the Scottish Women’s Premier League players’ player of the year.

Jane beat off competition from Lucy Graham (Forfar Farmington), Jill Paterson (Rangers) and Suzanne Grant (Celtic) to lift the accolade.

The prize brings to an end a memorable year for the former Academy pupil, who finished the 2012 season as the leading scorer in the Scottish domestic game, hitting the back of the net 40 times as Glasgow City won a sixth successive SWPL title and completed a memorable domestic treble with victory in both the Premier League Cup and the Scottish Cup.

Jane, who learned her craft at the Bute coaching classes run by former Ayr and Partick Thistle winger Jim Ross, was chosen as a stand-by player for the Team GB squad at the London Olympics and took her tally of Scotland caps to 44, helping the national team to within a whisker of reaching the 2013 women’s European championships.
