THE presentation of prizes for the over-18s’ Strickeback five-a-side football league in Rothesay took place this week.

The first year of the league met with a great response from the public and a fantastic level of participation from the over-18 players – with 11 teams entering there was no shortage of great games and talented players on show.

This year’s league winners on goal difference were Boyzone, with Chrissy Donnelly leading the team to victory, while the Golden Boot award, given to the player of the season and voted for by all participating players, went to Steven Reynolds for his consistent sportsmanship and performance.

Organiser Ryan McKellar said: “I would like to thank everyone that has supported and participated within the Strikeback league.

“A special thanks goes to the referees, James Crichton, Douglas Parkins, Euan McKay and Graeme Shaw, and I would also like to thank the janitors of Rothesay Joint Campus and the Golfers Bar for their sponsorship and providing a great feast at the award ceremony.

“We hope you all had fun in participating within the league and arrangements are already being put into place to improve leagues for next time. Hope to see you all back next year!”
