Football: Brandanes battle to Scottish Cup draw

Rothesay Brandane earned a second bite at the Scottish Cup cherry after a hard-fought 0-0 draw away to Strathclyde University’s Greater Glasgow Premier League XI on Saturday.

The Danes started slowly, perhaps with the bad results of recent games playing on their minds, but gradually came out of their shell, and Jordan Selkirk and Wes Pattison had the islanders’ best chances of the first half.

Rothesay keeper Willie Lawrence tipped a netbound shot over the bar in the opening minutes of the second half, and Pattison came agonisingly close to winning the tie in the final minutes when his fine volley came back off the underside of the bar and bounced away to safety.

The tie will be replayed in Rothesay this Saturday, October 27, with a 1.45pm kick-off.
