Curling: Bute rink lifts Brandane Cup

Donnie MacLeod, Donald Kinnear, Margaret MacLeod and Peter Martin lifted the Brandane Cup for Bute Curling Club this week in the latest Argyll Province competition of the season.

Four clubs took part in the event, with Bute doing battle against Dunoon Argyll, Dunoon Ladies and Oban for the Brandane Cup in the morning and the Baxter Trophy in the afternoon.

Bute played very well in their morning match against Dunoon Ladies, skipped by Morag Smith, winning the first five ends to open up a six-shot lead - and though Dunoon upped their game with three shots in the sixth end and a fourth in the seventh, Bute held on to win 6-4.

Sadly the island rink weren’t able to add to their success after the break, though a narrow 6-5 loss to Dunoon Argyll was no disgrace; the Baxter Trophy was won by Oban.
