Cricket: Bute attackers shine in big Inverclyde win
CRAIG MURRAY took a strong contender for ‘catch of the season’ on Saturday as Bute continued their recent turnaround in form with a fine nine-wicket victory away to a full-strength Inverclyde outfit.
The hosts won the toss and chose to bat, but Bute’s bowlers made the best possible start by dismissing Inverclyde’s two openers for ducks, with skipper Mark Crichton taking both scalps.
Murray’s superb catch off the bowling of Francois Lintermans saw Inverclyde’s S. Campbell dismissed for 18, and it was all downhill for the hosts thereafter, with no fewer than six home batsmen caught behind, including two to stand-in Bute wicket-keeper Guy Crichton.
Mark Crichton took the final wicket to bring his tally to three; Richard Harding, Chris South and Lintermans took two apiece as Inverclyde collapsed to 80 all out.
Bute recovered from the early loss of Harding - out for just one run for the second successive week - to race to victory in just 14.4 overs, with Alan Peacock finishing on an impressive 36 not out, including four fours and a six, and Guy Crichton accumulating 28 not out after replacing Harding at the wicket.
This Saturday, June 9, Bute are away to a Strathclyde side who sit just one place below the islanders in the Lords WDCU Championship table, having recorded a 72-run victory away to Kingholm last weekend.
