BUTE Bowling Association’s annual open tournament reached an exciting climax with four fascinating finals at Ardbeg Bowling Club on Saturday.

Janet Campbell and Bridie Ferguson of Kirn and Hunter’s Quay beat holders Violet Westland and Renee Speirs (Rothesay) 22-19 to win the ladies’ pairs final, while Iain Middleton and Donald McKellar defeated Haig Reynolds and Matt Martin 16-10 in an all-Rothesay final to secure the gents’ pairs title.

Liz McHugh from the finals’ host club defeated Violet Westland 21-16 in the ladies’ singles final, but Matt Martin made up for his pairs disappointment by seeing off the challenge of another Rothesay clubmate, David McMurchie, by a 21-12 margin in the final of the gents’ singles.

More details, and pictures of all the winners, in the new issue of The Buteman - on sale from Thursday, August 23.
