The Rainbow Warriors angling club emerged victorious from their challenge match with members of the Isle of Bute Angling Association on their annual visit to the island.

The Warriors retained the trophy with a total catch of 19 rainbow trout, weighing 59lb 6oz, against the local anglers’ total of 13 fish, weighing 38lb 4oz.

Jock Cree won the trophy for the best performing member of the Warriors team, while Fraser McCartney won the Jock McPherson Trophy for the best local angler.

The Warriors’ annual trip to Bute is much anticipated, both by the visitors and their hosts, and though the match itself was keenly contested, the fact that all involved enjoyed the occasion was rather more important.
