The quarter-final line-up in the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League at Port Bannatyne Golf Club was decided on Sunday after the last round of qualifying fixtures.

The pairs qualifying for the last eight of the competition are as follows.

League A: Donald Standaloft & Hector Whitelaw; Sam Jamieson & David Driver; Colin Renfrew & Gordon Peacock; Ian McFarlane & Connor McClymont.

League B: Jim Thom & Gordon Macintyre; Jamie Jardine and Ted McDonald; John Black & Bobby Pedder; Robert Jardine and Mark Crichton.

The quarter-finals will be played on March 1, while the battle to win (or rather to avoid) the wooden spoon, involving the four pairs who failed to make it to the knock-out stage of the main competition, will begin on the same day.

Meanwhile, Bute Golf Club captain Steven Neilson was top scorer in the latest round of the Winter League at the Kingarth course on Saturday with 45 stableford points from a gross 78, though overall leader Robert McKirdy consolidated his place at the top of the overall standings - in which players’ best eight stableford scores count towards their total - with a tally of 39 points.
