THE fourth round of Bute Golf Club’s Winter League at Kingarth was “a game of two halves” in more ways than one on Saturday.
Early frost made things difficult over the first nine holes as competitors had to cope with challenging conditions around the greens - then, as the morning sun took effect, scores improved dramatically on the inward half.
A trio of competitors - Richie Smith (18), Ian McDougall (21) and Bobby Speirs (15) - led the way with excellent returns of 39 points.
League leader Graham McArthur (5), who was one point behind on 38, was the exception as he scored well throughout his round, finishing three-under-fours for 17 holes after one disappointing no-score at the 14th.
