Golf: Tenerife break gives Hughie a boost at Rothesay

Hughie Charker confirmed the benefits of a winter break in the sun when he returned from a week of golf and buggy-driving in Tenerife to post the highest score of the day in Saturday’s round of the Bike Shed Winter League singles at Rothesay Golf Club.

Hughie’s total of 38 stableford points saw him finish one point ahead of Norman Lamond - results which lifted Hughie into a share of overall third place and Norman into eighth.

The one-week pairing of Willie Glen and Tommy Kilpatrick topped the standings in the latest round of the pairs Winter League on Sunday, beating Craig Charker and Kenny Thomson on the countback after both pairs returned scores of 39 points.
