Stuart Strathie got this year’s Winter League at Rothesay Golf Club off to a flying start when he scored a hole in one in the opening round of the pairs competition on Sunday.

Stuart, last year’s Winter League singles champion, landed his ace at the par-three 11th hole - though the four stableford points it earned weren’t quite enough for Stuart and his playing partner Allan Laughlan to finish top of the standings in the opening round of the competition.

That honour went to Andy Docherty and Jason McKay, who scored 45 points to finish four ahead of Stuart and Allan.

Tommy Duncan was the top scorer in the opening round of the Winter League singles competition on Saturday, returning 36 points to finish one clear of Michael Murty.
