Donald Standaloft's gross 66 was the stand-out score in the latest round of Bute Golf Club's Winter League competition.

It all came together for Donald Standaloft on Saturday when he powered his way to an outstanding victory in the latest stage of Bute Golf Club’s Winter League.

The four-handicapper, who suffered the ups and downs of golf in his previous round, found consistency with style mastering the conditions with ease on a day of strong winds and blustery showers to breeze his way to the top of the standings in a round which included no fewer than nine threes.

His performance was topped by a grandstand finish with successive birdies over the last three holes to cover the inward half in 31 shots. Earlier Standaloft had beaten par at the fifth, seventh, and 14th.

There was also a sterling performance from Graham Bolton (1), who had the only two of the day at the 12th hole and followed up with a birdie at the 14th on his way to a level-par 68 and second place on 37 points. Title-holder Andy Docherty (10) was third with 33 points.

There is no change at the top of the table in the tournament, in which the best eight stableford scores comprise players’ overall total: Robert McKirdy leads the way on 314 points and Graham McArthur is second on 308, with Leighton Thomas one point further adrift.

Standaloft, Bolton and Docherty have all yet to complete eight rounds.
