Golf: Standaloft leads Bute Golf Club championship charge

Donald Standaloft leads the way into the match-play stages of Bute Golf Club’s championship after completing a 142 aggregate on Saturday.

Robert McKirdy, who also has three club championships to his name, matched Standaloft’s second-round score of 69, but his first-round 74 left him one shot adrift.

Others through to the quarter-finals are Arthur Hunter (73, 71), defending champion Jim McKirdy (76, 74), Richie More (74, 78), Andy Docherty (78, 76), David Bryden (82, 77) and John Kernaghan (84, 78).

The draw is: Standaloft v Kernaghan, J. McKirdy v More, Hunter v Docherty and R. McKirdy v Bryden. Ties to be played by June 1.

Ian McDougall will meet Richie Smith in a preliminary round of the ‘Wee Championship’ handicap contest for the Cuthbertson Cup, with the winner meeting Steve Neilson in the semi-finals. The other semi is between Bobby Speirs and Leighton Thomas.
