Scott McAlister was crowned Rothesay Golf Club’s junior champion this week after a dramatic 18th-hole victory over Lewis Poole.

Lewis, who had knocked out Matthew Dunn in the semi-final, opened up an early three-shot lead, but Scott, who had defeated Ryan McTaggart in his last four tie, gradually pegged his opponent back until the pair were level going to the final hole – and it was Scott who held his nerve to capture the title.

Meanwhile, Shaun Kernaghan won the battle for the adult division two championship with a convincing victory over Nicky Simmons, the pair shaking hands on the 12th green after a one-sided final for the Atlantic Tankard, while Bob McKechnie mounted a superb fightback to win the Sunnidale Bowl in division three, winning the last four holes to clinch victory over Stuart Hogarth on the 18th green.

Phyllis McKirdy won her first Rothesay ladies’ championship crown – having been losing finalist on no fewer than 11 occasions in the past! - with victory over Liz McMillan at the first extra hole.

The final of the gents’ club championship, between Tommy Reynolds and Rory McEwan, was postponed due to heavy rain.
