A round-up of this week’s action from Bute’s three golf clubs...
THE on-song pair of George Reynolds and Allan Smith chalked up a third weekly win in succession in the 18th week of the Bike Shed Winter League at Rothesay on Sunday.
Reynolds scored three birdies and an eagle two at the fifth in an outward half of 24 stableford points; an inward nine of 20 points gave them victory on the day by three clear points over overall leaders Craig Charker and Henry Tait.
Charker and Tait lead the standings on 342 points, with Reynolds and Smith now second overall on 336.
Michael Murty returned a score of 39 points to win Saturday’s round of the singles Winter League by five points from Angus Murray.
Meanwhile, Bute Golf Club’s reigning Winter League champion Leighton Thomas moved into pole position in this year’s competition when he returned a score of 37 stableford points on Saturday.
The winner on the day was Graham McArthur with 41 points, but Thomas’s overall total of 313 means he now has a four-point lead over Stevie Neilson at the top of the overall standings.
At Port Bannatyne, John Black’s 62 was the best net score of the day in the January medal on Sunday, but it was the scratch medal prize he took away after returning the best gross score of 74.
The first class category was won by Liam Shanks with a net 66 (76-10), while Calum MacPhail took the second class prize with a net 64 (81-17). The CSS was 65.
