Golf: Rothesay team records fine league win over Gourock

ROTHESAY’S first team played some excellent golf to record a 3-1 triumph over a strong Gourock team in their latest Firth of Clyde League fixture on Sunday.

Club championship runner-up George Reynolds and his playing partner Jim McAlister led the way with a 2 and 1 win over Brian Campbell and Gavin McDougall - a result which rounded off a strong weekend for the Hamilton Accies midfielder, who had won the weekly Friday medal in terrible conditions two days previously with a superb one-under-par 68.

Full results from Sunday’s match were as follows: George Reynolds and Jim McAlister bt Brian Campbell and Gavin McDougal 2 and 1; Stevie McDonald and Graham McArthur bt Steven Higgins and Barry Hayes 3 and 1; Rory McEwan and Gordon McClean lost to Chris Mooney and Ross Campbell 1 down; Michael Murty and Calum McKirdy bt Blair Harvey and Barry Higgins 2 and 1.

A memorable day for the hosts was completed when Hughie Charker and Frank Lee won the committee match for Rothesay against their Gourock counterparts.
