Rothesay Golf Club retained their Bute Seniors League title this week after their Port Bannatyne rivals failed to secure the win they needed to snatch the prize in the competition’s final game.

The Port’s players travelled to Kingarth to face a Bute GC team who had failed to win any of their previous fixtures in the 2014 tournament - but the Bute players upset the form book with a 2½ to 1½ victory.

The result ensured that Rothesay, with five points to their name after an emphatic 4-0 defeat of the Port in their final fixture, would retain the title they won in 2013.

Results (Bute first): C. Middleton & M. Calder bt H. Whitelaw & P. Barnett 1 up; D. Bryden & P. Martin bt G. Peacock & J. Thom 2 and 1; S. Neilson & A. McFarlane halved with R. Turnbull & J. Bicker; I. McDougall & S. Long lost to I.L. MacLeod & J. Preston 5 and 4.
