Golf: Robert remains Kingarth’s birdie king

Robert McKirdy consolidated his position as ‘Birdie King’ of Bute Golf Club’s Winter League at Kingarth on Saturday with another three sub-par scores in the latest round of the competition.

Birdies at the seventh (his 11th at that hole during this season’s tournament), eighth and 17th paved the way for a winning score of 39 stableford points from a gross round of 71, earning McKirdy a handicap cut to five and a move into third place in the overall standings.

Andy Docherty remains the overall league leader after scoring 35 points on a day when a strong south-westerly wind made scoring difficult.
