Rain, wind and a dismal forecast combined to force the postponement of the latest round of qualifying fixtures in Port Bannatyne Golf Club's Winter League competition.

“Good decision” - that was the unanimous reaction when the third qualifying round in the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League at Port Bannatyne Golf Club was called off on Sunday.

With the greens already saturated from the week’s heavy rain, and black clouds hanging heavily over a course which was being buffeted by a biting wind, the club’s match secretary only just made it back to the clubhouse to make the required phone calls before the heavens opened to confirm the wisdom of the move.

This postponed qualifier will be re-scheduled for an as-yet-unconfirmed date. Hopefully, however, the weather will improve enough to allow the club’s busy festive programme to be completed.

The Boxing Day Greensomes are on Thursday, December 26, and members are encouraged to bring friends or guests as partners, or to come along even if they do not have a pre-arranged partner. Members can ‘partner up’ from others who have turned up hoping for a game - meet at 9.30am for a 10am start.

December 27 is ‘Festive Friday’ with a three course meal and music for £10. Tickets can be purchased from Janey Jardine, though availability is limited.

The gents’ December medal is on December 29 with the usual ballots, while January 2 sees the Captain’s v Match Secretary’s team fixtures. Again, ammembers are encouraged to bring along guests and to meet at 9.30am for a 10am start.
