JIM McKIRDY celebrated an outstanding season, topped by his championship victory, at Bute Golf Club’s annual dinner and presentation of prizes on Saturday evening in Kingarth Hotel.
The seven-handicapper earned the acclaim of clubmates as he received the Gavin North Trophy for his first title win after a season of success that included four other major trophy victories.
In addition to the premier award, McKirdy achieved a clean sweep of the club’s match-play tournaments and on Saturday took custody of the prestigious Baillie Cup (singles), James Gill Memorial Cup (foursomes), and the W.D. McFarlane Memorial Trophy (four-ball better-ball).
On the last day of the season, he put the seal on his success with victory in the James Lamont Quaich stroke-play competition.
The ladies’ season was also dominated by a powerful duo, with Elizabeth Speirs and Elizabeth Archibald receiving ten of the 12 annual awards.
Elizabeth Speirs led the way when she retained the Allison North Trophy with another club championship success after a final victory over Elizabeth Archibald who had the consolation of winning six other trophies.
The awards were presented by club captain Frazer Robinson and his wife, Janette, at the climax to a highly enjoyable evening in the club’s new ‘home’, Kingarth Hotel.
