Pete Barnett shrugged off the ‘always the bridesmaid, never the bride’ tag - at least in 12-hole stableford competition - by winning the first ‘Social Sunday’ competition of the winter at Port Bannatyne on Sunday.

Having finished runner-up in the last three Saturday rounds of the Salmon Leap, he found Sundays rather more to his liking by beating his Winter League partner Calum MacPhail to top spot by virtue of the better inward half, both players having scored 25 points.

Jim Bicker took third place from Robert Jardine, again thanks to a better inward half, after both players chalked up 24 stableford points.
