Gary Steele won his first Senior Open title at Rothesay on Saturday with a net score of 64 (80-16), pipping sponsor George Hanson to the prize.
George had led for most of the day with a net 65 (72-7), but Gary just held it together in spite of bogeys at the 16th and 17th and a double bogey five at the last; third place was shared by Tommy Duncan and Jimmy Ewing on net 66.
Former Rothesay member George Morrison, now of Inveraray, won the 50-57 age group, while George Hanson won the 58-64 category and Jim McClean took the over-65 honours with a net 69. The best scratch score was Tommy Duncan’s 72.
