Michael Murty and Neil MacLeod won one of the most popular tournaments of the year at Rothesay Golf Club, the Wee Bennie, on Sunday.

Michael and Neil posted a superb net score of 57 to win the competition by a two-shot margin ahead of Rory McEwan and Bob McKechnie, though sponsorship by local joiner and undertaker Gerry McGuigan ensured there were prizes for all those who finished in the top ten as well as for those who finished nearest the pin at the course’s par three holes.

The Wee Bennie should have brought down the curtain on a busy weekend’s action at Rothesay following the prestigious Bennie Trophy competition the previous day - though as previously reported on this site, the Bennie Trophy’s fate will not be known until Monday, when a three-way play-off will decide the competition after Rory, along with Ian White and Graham Bolton, tied for first place on Saturday, when the competition was shortened from 36 holes to 18 due to the monsoon-like playing conditions.
