Golf: McKirdy continues good form at Bute GC

Bute Golf Club champion Robert McKirdy was in title-winning form again at Kingarth on Saturday when he added the McDougall Trophy to his earlier major triumph.

Back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th holes paved the way to victory for the five-handicapper who added a further sub-par score at the 18th to complete the inward half in 32 shots.

A gross 67 earned him 42 points in the stableford competition - two clear of runner-up Richie Smith (19).

Sandy Long (21) and Kingarth Open winner Leighton Thomas (9), who had an excellent front nine of 34, shared third place with 38 points apiece.
