Bute Golf Club newcomer John McBride won a second major trophy this week in his first full season at Kingarth by adding the Baillie Cup to his earlier Summer League Shield victory.

An emphatic 6 and 5 win over Andy Docherty in the final gave the 14-handicapper this latest success in the club’s main match-play tournament.

En route to the final McBride beat club champion Robert McKirdy and Kingarth Open winner Leighton Thomas, who earlier also had to settle for joint runner-up place to McBride in the Summer League, sponsored by The Bike Shed.

The July Medal was also added to McBride’s mounting honours’ list this season when he achieved his best competitive round with a gross 74 to take first place on net 59.
