Golf: McArthur takes early Winter League lead

GRAHAM McARTHUR is on course to win the trophy donated by his father after he took an early lead in the Winter League with a one-under-par 67 in the third round of the stableford tournament at Kingarth on Saturday.

The six-handicapper moved to the top of the leader board in the challenge for the McArthur Cup thanks to a burst of birdies, at the ninth, tenth and 13th, which set up his best score of the season.

McArthur’s total of 43 points gives him an overall total of 119, four clear of Andy Docherty, with Ian McDougall on 114 and John Kernaghan on 112.
