Golf: M&M Trophy starts this weekend

The annual contest for one of Bute’s most sought-after golfing trophies gets under way this weekend.

The M&M Trophy is the only tournament to take place across all three of the island’s courses, with rounds at Rothesay, Bute and Port Bannatyne.

The 2013 competition begins at Port Bannatyne this Sunday, May 4, with the second round being played at Rothesay four days later before the tournament draws to a close at Bute Golf Club’s Kingarth course.

The current holder of the trophy is Port Bannatyne’s Liam Shanks, who coasted to a ten-shot win in the 2012 tournament thanks to net scores of 64 at his home course, 62 at Rothesay and 69 at Kingarth.
