The battle for qualification places in the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League at Port Bannatyne proved just as tight as expected on Sunday.
In League A, Robert Jardine and Mark Crichton sealed top spot - though with Donald Standaloft standing in for Crichton due to the latter’s injured shoulder - with a 2 and 1 win over Jack Paterson and Jamie Jardine, who nonetheless secured their place in the top eight as one of the two best third-placed finishers.
Second place in League A went to Graham Fisher and Ian McFarlane, who beat Hunter Martin and David Bodys 4 and 3.
Craig McFarlane and Liam Shanks had already secured first place in League B before Sunday’s matches, and they will be joined in the quarter-finals by Ian Shaw and Francois Lintermans, who beat Jim Thom and Gordy Macintyre 4 and 2.
David Driver and David Reid won the fight to finish top of League C; they are joined in the quarter-finals by John Marshall and Jim Bicker, and by the other best-third-placed pair, Jim McKirdy and Bobby Cassidy.
The knockout stages of the competition begin this Sunday, March 3.
