Rothesay Golf Club’s assistant greenkeeper Shaun Kernaghan used his knowledge of the course to great effect as he won one of the club’s most prestigious competitions of the season, the McLean Cup, on Saturday.

Kernaghan lifted the trophy thanks to a better inward half than John Hogarth after both players returned net scores of 66 - Kernaghan’s achieved courtesy of a gross 74, while Hogarth posted a gross 82.

The podium places in the competition, sponsored by local haulage firm John Mackirdy, were completed by Norman Lamond on 67 (85-18), while Rory McEwan won the scratch prize with a round of 69, two clear of nearest challengers Jack Mackirdy and John Shaw.
