Iain Crawford took everyone by surprise with the best overall score of the day to win the Lavender Centenary Trophy – the last of the special competitions celebrating the hundredth birthday of the Port Bannatyne club.
Playing off his club handicap of 47, Iain destroyed not only his handicap but the whole field with a fantastic net 51 courtesy of a gross 98.
John Black took the gents’ prize with his excellent net 62 while Ruth Sweeney won the ladies section with a net 79.
The Lavender Trophy brought down the curtain on the Port’s four centenary competitions; all four have been outstanding successes, and the last will certainly feature as an annual competition on the Port’s golfing calendar in future, with the Powerplay and Past Captains’ Scramble possible candidates for similar status.
