Golf: Freezing rain puts paid to Port action

Another Sunday bit the dust at Port Bannatyne this week - though if only it were mere dust, instead of the onslaught of rain that has tormented the course and caused further disruption to the fixture list.

Week five of the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League was postponed on Sunday - though probably to the delight of all participants, considering the freezing rain which pummelled the course on the hour of the tee times.

The result is that yet again the fixture list has fallen one more Sunday behind, and, with apologies to those unable to play on Saturdays, the match secretary now has no option but to use Saturdays to play ‘catch up’.

Weather permitting, the first Saturday action will take place this weekend, with the October medal, sponsored by Jim Thom, in tandem with the Winter Handicap, being played on January 19 and the ‘week four’ fixtures in the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League following on January 20.
