Bute played host to a party of visitors from two homes run by Erskine, the charity for former service personnel, this week.

The group, from the Erskine Mains and Erskine Park homes, were invited to the island by the local branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland.

The focus of their visit was a round of golf at Bute Golf Club’s Kingarth course in beautiful sunshine on Sunday, with some taking part in the golf itself and others simply content to watch.

RBLS branch chairman David Boe said the visit was part of a programme of comradeship activities run by the organisation, giving veterans and their families a chance to get involved in communities and meet like-minded people.

“This is the first event in the programme organised by the Bute branch,” David said, “and we’re very grateful to Bute Golf Club for giving us the use of their course.
