Rothesay Golf Club had its annual visit from the Ecclefechan Fusiliers this week - with the highlight of the touring party’s week being the playing of the Robin Strong Memorial Trophy on Friday.
The competition is played in teams of four - two from Rothesay and two from the Fusiliers - with the two best stableford points at each hole counting, along with the best three scores at the eighth, 11th and 13th.
This year’s winners, with 93 points, were the team comprising Stuart McKechnie and Allan Smith from Rothesay and Fusiliers Alan Brown and Paul Marshall.
After the game the players enjoyed a superb meal in the clubhouse and enjoyed a few refreshments to finish off the evening.
* Meanwhile, the line-up for the knockout stages of the club championship was decided on Saturday, with Graham Bolton finishing as top qualifier ahead of George Reynolds, Ian White, Calum McKirdy, Tommy Reynolds and Rory McEwan.
The last two in the quarter-finals will be resolved by a play-off on Monday night between Stuart McKechnie, Tommy Duncan and Angus Murray.
Jimmy Burke is the top qualifier in the Atlantic Tankard competition for the second class championship, while the list of quarter-finalists in the Sunnidale Bowl, for players with handicaps of 15 and above, is led by Stuart Strathie. The battle for the new senior club championship is led by John Duncan.
